About these listings
66 listings mention D7 Visa in their public information. A listing shows what the lawyer or firm says about its own work. It is not a check of their experience or results.
Official information
What the D7 Visa is
"D7" is the everyday name. The official Portuguese pages call it a residence visa for retirees, religious persons and people who live from their own income. It is for citizens of countries outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland.
Main requirements
- Means of subsistence. You must show you can support yourself. The Portuguese consular website gives the national minimum monthly wage, 920 euros for 2026 (after social security), as the reference figure. It counts 100% for the first adult, 50% for each other adult and 30% for each child or dependent. The official pages read did not state a separate euro amount for this visa, so ask the consulate what applies to you.
- Travel insurance. Valid travel insurance is a general visa condition. The consular page says it may be waived under some bilateral agreements.
- Criminal record. A criminal record certificate is required (Hague Apostille or legalised). A conviction of more than one year can be a reason for refusal.
Documents the consulate lists
- Application form, 2 photos, and a passport valid for 3 months beyond your stay.
- Proof of your legal status where you apply, valid travel insurance and the criminal record certificate.
- Proof of means of subsistence.
- Retirees: proof of the pension amount and that it will be received in Portugal.
- People who live from their own income: proof of income from property, intellectual property or financial investments, and that it is available in Portugal.
- Religious persons: a separate list (a responsibility statement and proof of religious status).
These are base documents. The consulate may ask for more.
How it works
- Find the Portuguese consular post that covers your region and submit the national visa form and documents in person.
- The decision time stated in the law is 60 days. The residence visa is valid for two entries and four months.
- After arriving, apply to AIMA (the immigration agency) for the residence permit, by appointment.
- The temporary residence permit is valid for 2 years and can be renewed in 3-year periods. Permanent residence needs 5 years of temporary permit, means of subsistence, accommodation and basic Portuguese.
Fee
The consular site lists 110 euros for processing a national visa application, with exemptions for some groups (for example children up to 6). Another official page shows a different amount, so confirm the fee with the consulate.

Before you contact a lawyer
- Check that the lawyer is registered with the Portuguese Bar Association (Ordem dos Advogados). Its website has a public search.
- Ask what the first consultation costs and how fees for your case would be set. Ask for this in writing.
- Say which language you want to use, for talking and for documents.
- Ask exactly what the lawyer will do for you, and who in the firm will handle your case.
- Be careful with anyone who promises a result. Decisions on applications are made by the authorities, not by the lawyer.
- Check the details on this site with the firm. They come from public sources and can be out of date.
